Garmin Venu 3: Leak reveals new smartwatch with skin temperature sensor and sleep coach support

Jul 15, 2023Jul 15, 2023

Gadgets & Wearables has published photos of the Venu 3, an unreleased smartwatch that Garmin is expected to launch in September. To recap, Venu 3 references first appeared on the SIRIM database alongside the Venu 3S. Earlier this month, leaker @fttest_en discovered more details about both smartwatches, which Garmin appears unlikely to supplement with dedicated Music variants. Now, Gadgets & Wearables leak highlights that the Venu series will return with a round display.

However, the screenshots that the website has leaked so far show the Venu 3 with noticeably smaller display bezels than its predecessor. Additionally, the display now has a subtle curvature, likely to heighten the sense of thinner bezels. Also, Garmin has added dots and dashes around the display this time around, albeit seemingly only for aesthetics. Arguably, the inclusion of a skin temperature sensor is the most notable change between the Venu 2 and Venu 3 series. As the images below show, this sensor can track body temperature changes over time.

With that said, ambient temperature levels currently prevent these kind of sensors from providing precise absolute values. Thus, the skin temperature screen lacks any references to absolute temperatures. Theoretically, the Venu 3 could use its temperature sensor to track menstrual cycles, or to provide feedback on training readiness. Garmin has also overhauled sleep tracking, which now features a coach function that provides tips for improving your sleep and your overall sleep requirement. Unfortunately, a release date remains unknown for now, as do other technical details, pricing and availability.
